Baby Hummingbirds

We have some big trees in our backyard and some of the branches were hanging down pretty low onto our back patio. James got a chainsaw one night and cut some of them down. 2 days later I was walking around in the backyard when something caught my eye in the grass. I looked down and saw a tiny bird! It was flapping its little wings trying to fly, but was too little. I yelled at James to over and look at it! We figured it was in a nest in one of the branches he had cut down a few days prior.

Anyways I couldn't just leave it there but I had no idea what to do! I wanted to move it over to the edge of the yard in the shade, not right in the middle of the grass in the bright sunlight. I got it onto a little twig and moved it over to the edge of our yard. Ginger was soo interested in it!

We looked up what to do if you find a baby hummingbird and Google said that hummingbirds have no sense of smell, so unlike other birds who will abandon their babes if you touch them and get your smell on them, hummingbirds will never know! So we felt safe enough to hold the little guy.

Then we looked over and found ANOTHER baby over by our grill! He was trying to fly as well, even got off the ground a few inches before falling again. It was so cute.

We decided to bring the birds back together..

Happy little reunion!

The little babies were chirping then we looked up and saw a mama hummingbird chirping back and flying around the yard looking for her babies! We decided to set them down and quietly watch mama find her babes. It was the cutest thing ever watching them chirp back and forth to each other until they found one another!

This last picture is kind of hard to see, but it's the mom feeding her baby! Ohhh happy ending :)
